Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- ½ cup shortening
- ⅔ cup milk
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
- Cut the shortening into the dry ingredients until it is like course crumbs.
- Add milk all at once, and stir quickly with a fork until just combined. If you overmix biscuits they will end up tough and dry.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough ½ inch to ¾ inch thick.
- Cut out biscuits using a 2-inch round biscuit cutter. When cutting the biscuits, be careful not to twist the cutter because that pinches the edges of the biscuit and can prevent the biscuits from rising. Just press down and pull straight up.
- Bake on ungreased baking sheet at 450 degrees for 10-13 minutes.
